Quoting Trends: Pontiac

In the past, we’ve heard from agents that one of the things they struggle with is knowing what makes and models work best for a specialty policy through Hagerty. The Cars You Should Know list isn’t just a compilation of the cars we think are cool, it’s the cars we see come across our book of business most often (that also happen to be very cool, of course).

Approximately 5% of all Hagerty’s policy quotes in 2024 were for a Pontiac. And for the four models featured here, 53% of those quotes were from Gen X and younger (people born after 1964). The quote trends illustrate what’s happening with this month’s featured manufacturer: Pontiac.

GTO | The GTO was the second-most popular quoted Pontiac model at Hagerty in 2024, with just over 6,000 quotes. The 1964-67 Pontiac GTO had the most quotes with a 42% share, but it was followed closely by the 1968-72 Pontiac GTO with a 35% share. If you’re looking in your book of business, the ’60s and ’70s models may be your best bet for finding a good fit for a specialty policy from Hagerty.

Firebird Trans Am | The Firebird remains a favorite at Hagerty, coming in at number 8 overall for most popular vehicles quoted in 2024. And it was by far the most popular Pontiac model with over 17,000 quotes. The Trans Am may be getting younger as it gets older too, with a majority (68%) of the quotes coming from Gen X and younger (that’s up from 62% the year prior). The most popular generation Firebird is the 1970-81 car (the Smokey and the Bandit generation) with over a third of all quotes in 2024.

Grand Prix | Coming in at #39 for most-quoted vehicles, there were just less that 1,400 quotes for the Grand Prix in 2024—but it should be noted that that’s up 21% from 2023. The most popular generation Grand Prix is the 1978-87 car with a 27% share of quotes in 2024. It is also the cheapest with an average quote value of $15,000. The first three generations of the Grand Prix all received about the same number of quotes in 2024, however, the 1962-1968 first generation car had the highest average quote value at $28,800.

As we’ve known for a couple years now, the ownership of classic and collector cars is starting to shift, gaining more popularity in the younger generations. Keeping a close eye on who’s quoting what can help you understand who and what to look for in your own book of business.
